440c Fishing Knife

This knife had to be tough enough to survive a serious fishing trip—at least, that was my father’s brief. Saltwater resistance and a durable leather sheath were non-negotiable. For me, it also became my first stainless-forging adventure.

The blade is a clean 150 mm 440C, with a maximum thickness of 2.1 mm at the bolster for a light, practical feel in hand. The 3 mm leather sheath was made simple but strong, then personalized for its owner. Years ago, my father brought back a piece of olive wood from Greece, which I used for the handle—subtly scalloped for maximum grip.

Enjoy your retirement, Dad.
